Styling hair isn’t for everyone. I get that and I have learned quite a few things being in this industry just by experience. I wanted to talk about the biggest myth that many clients still believe to be true when someone styles your hair. Heck, you might still believe this yourself. I wanted to touch on if your hair is dirty/you have day old hair, the style will hold curl better and the stylist will have an easier time.

This is a myth, and when I style hair, I want the complete opposite. I ask my clients to come in with clean, dry hair and with as little product on it as possible. I like to make the hair ‘dirty’ myself. It gives me better control. I also don’t have to fight with oily hair, and I only have to focus on grip and texture. So wash your hair the morning of and blow dry it until it is completely dry. This saves time so I do not have to blow dry it and it saves time and products on my dry shampoo so I’m not dry shampooing your whole scalp to get rid of the oil. 

I also do not want my clients putting any heat on their hair before our appointment. So if you think you should flat iron your hair.. don’t. I will take care of everything. The reason why I do not want you to change your curl pattern is that I would have to change it again. The hair doesn’t like to change curl patterns a lot. So let’s say you flat iron your hair and then I go to curl the hair. The hair will curl, but it won’t hold the curl as long. And I look bad as a stylist, and you are unhappy halfway through the night. I want none of that. I want to be happy and confident in your style, and I want you happy throughout the whole day and night of your event.

Just remember, showing up to your appointment with dirty/day old hair will not help you or your stylist! It’s a myth that dirty hair holds curls longer. Also, please don’t flat iron your hair before your appointment either! This changes your curl pattern, and your hair won’t hold the curls as well. Come to your hair appointment with clean, natural hair, and you and I will both be happier in the end!
